The Sonics whipped out the Hanzo Steel on the Lakers on Tuesday. I don’t know how many of you enjoy seeing your friends miserable, but I like it. I like it a whole bunch.

The season is getting out of control, man. We're 18-4 now. We've beaten the T'Wolves, the Kings, the Mavericks, the Jazz, the Nuggets, and the Blazers, and we've beaten the Spurs not once, but twice. I mean, like, crap. Is this '93-'94 all over again?

Insert wise-crack here.

Oh yeah, we also beat the Lakers, but, as Superfan Elvin freely admits, right now that's like beating up a retarded kid.

In fact, he sent this e-mail on Wednesday:
"we have bad D.  they make all their threes. we missed all of our open shots.  they're better than us.  it was pretty clear cut.  i dont think anyone is really surprised that we got waxed."

I'm sorry, Elvin. Can you repeat that please?

"we have bad D.  they make all their threes. we missed all of our open shots.  they're better than us.  it was pretty clear cut.  i dont think anyone is really surprised that we got waxed."

Mmm..... one more time.

"we have bad D.  they make all their threes. we missed all of our open shots.  they're better than us.  it was pretty clear cut.  i dont think anyone is really surprised that we got waxed."

To paraphrase the great Bill Russell, when I heard these words, I knew I couldn't go to heaven. Heaven would be a step down from hearing Elvin admit the Sonics are better than the Lakers.

I have nothing else to live for now.

Sigh.

I know it's annoying when whiny fans suddenly become bold with their teams, but I'm gonna do it anyway. And you wanna know why? Because I can.

I've always wanted to say that.

I think the people who bash the Sonics because they shoot so many threes really need to sit down and shut up. Seriously. It doesn't make any sense. It’s like criticizing the Colts for passing the ball too often or Heidi Klum for showing cleavage. The Sonics shoot the three because they’re good at it.

Proof:

Sonics 3-point percentages, 2004-05 / Career
Ray Allen: 40.4 / 40.1
Rashard Lewis: 40.9 / 38.4
Vladimir Radmanovic: 41.1 / 37.9
Luke Ridnour: 40.0 / 36.0
Antonio Daniels: 32.8 / 33.2
Team: 39%

My only concern right now is that they probably aren't going to keep up this pace, because everyone but Daniels is shooting above his career norm. So that means, what, that they'll be a great offense instead of an extraordinary one. I guess.

I like that Nate McMillan has always worked his offense around the team's talents rather than forcing it to be what it isn't or do what it can't do. We don't have anyone who can post up and sink 55% of his shots in the paint, but we do have a starting rotation full of guys who can score 3 points for every 2 the opposition's gonna score, and, well, I'll gladly take that. Seattle's had one of the five best offensive efficiency ratings in each of the last three seasons.

Next up -- the Suns at Key Arena on Friday, in a battle of the league's top two offenses.

Here are my keys to the game for Seattle:
1. Play your game. You can't worry about how Phoenix is playing its game. Just play yours.
2. Play within yourself. Because you can't play without yourself.
3. Score more points than Phoenix. If you do, you should win the game.
4. Go for the gaaat, and watch out for his right leg.
5. Want to win. You have to.

Should be an exciting game.

"we have bad D.  they make all their threes. we missed all of our open shots.  they're better than us.  it was pretty clear cut.  i dont think anyone is really surprised that we got waxed."

Sorry, that one fell out of my pocket.
