I really hate this argument that Cal's loss yesterday proves the BCS was right in not sending us to the Rose Bowl. The two events have nothing to do with each other. Yes, we got our crap handed to us by Texas Tech, but, well, since when has bowl performance been a criterion for bowl selection? How about never. It's never been a criterion because it's never been possible -- the bowls take place after the selections are made, nimrod.

Bowl selection is determined by a team's performance in the regular season, just like the MVP award in the three major sports is determined by a player's performance in the regular season. How that player does post-MVP has nothing to do with how deserving he is of that award. If you really, truly feel the player wasn't deserving, dissect what he did in the regular season. IT'S A REGULAR-SEASON AWARD. Likewise, if you really, truly feel the Bears weren't deserving of a Rose Bowl berth, dissect what they did in the regular season.

This seems so obvious to me that it almost feels stupid to bring it up. But I've already read a few columns rip on Cal this morning, saying that our talk of being shafted by the BCS is no longer legitimate. It's freakin ridiculous. We've already had a giant bucket of animal urine dumped on us by the BCS. There's no need to wrong us again.
